Summary

Yue Niang approached magistrate Huo with a complaint against her son-in-law, Chen Jing Ji, for the death of her daughter, Ms. Xi Men, who was subjected to severe abuse. Magistrate Huo swiftly took action, apprehending Chen and his courtesan wife, Feng Jin Bao. After a thorough investigation revealed Ms. Xi Men’s injuries and the circumstances of her suicide, Chen was sentenced to death for his cruelty. However, after receiving a bribe, Huo altered the sentence to exile instead. Chen, having learned a harsh lesson, mourned his wife and reformed his ways, while the magistrate warned him against further disturbances.
