Chapter 247: The Mystery of Chi Tu Ma: The Burnt Horse and Secrets in the Fire [246]
Summary
Officer Gong Chang presents four evidence bags containing palm-sized red horses, noting that one is significantly burned and has a pedestal with a faint character resembling "rabbit." The group realizes the connection to Guan Yu from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, leading them to suspect Xuan Tian Long De, an antique shop owner who has been present at the arson scenes. Investigations reveal Xuan’s emotional ties to fire due to his father's death as a firefighter, but his motives seem weak compared to other suspects. They learn Xuan distributed Guan Yu keychains, prompting urgency to locate him. Meanwhile, Xuan appears at the Maori Detective Agency, pleading for the return of a keychain and claiming he will set the house on fire. The police are called, and Xuan is taken in, denying responsibility for the arsons. The detectives suspect a larger scheme at play, reminiscent of a literary plot where distractions hide the true target. They decide to investigate the crime scene further, discovering evidence of lamp oil suggesting foul play.Full content
