Summary

The prisons in Yongzhou and Mingzhou share similarities, both dark and damp, but Yongzhou's cells are larger. Zhang Chao and others, despite being officials, are crammed together in a cell. Tensions rise as they confront Wang Yong An and his group, who are injured and fearful. Zhang Chao's group dominates, mocking and beating their rivals while the jailers look on without intervening. The atmosphere is brutal, with injuries and humiliation rampant. Zhang Chao questions other prisoners, finding them to be petty criminals, leading to disappointment. Meanwhile, political scheming unfolds outside the prison, with plans to undermine Zhang Chao and the Crown Prince.
