Chapter 236: "Burning the Giant Crab Camp". [238]

Summary

The Huai Mountain tribe sets up a public memorial for the Xu Zhou garrison and 6,000 soldiers lost to the flood, planning a surprise attack on the giant crab clan during the event. Artisans are recruited to build an altar and monument, and scouts gather information on the giant crab clan's movements. The giant crab clan chief, aware of his troops' inexperience, prepares for a grand banquet instead of an attack. The Huai Mountain tribe's chieftain learns of the banquet and orders preparations for a surprise attack, gathering cotton soaked in oil for torches, long poles, and wooden barrels filled with sand and stones. Soldiers practice long pole throwing, and on the night of the banquet, 5,000 light infantry approach the giant crab camp with long poles and torches, led by the Xu Zhou garrison's commander. The giant crab clan chief, unaware of the attack, holds a banquet with the four clan chiefs, growing careless as the night progresses. The chieftain of the Huai Mountain tribe leads 3,000 heavy cavalry and 2,000 heavy infantry as a rear guard, while Bai Wa and Tie Tou cover the infantry's advance. The imperial army's camp is set ablaze, causing chaos and disrupting the banquet.
