Chapter 230: "Stardust Brick and Spiritual Realm's Extraordinary Fate" [229]

Summary

In this chapter, Hong Yan explains to Zhang Su the importance of stardust bricks for sealing Flame Bottle Seven and constructing defenses against demons. She urges him to gather at least 40 more bricks, as she only has 10. Zhang Su expresses concern about the difficulty of obtaining these highly regulated materials, but Hong Yan suggests establishing a relationship with the isolationist Ling Jie, known for having the most stardust bricks. They decide to split up to pursue leads, with Zhang Su planning to consult the Witch Countermeasures Bureau and Hong Yan attempting to connect with the Ling Jie. As Zhang Su heads back to the office with his daughter Zha Zha, he reflects on the Ling Jie, a place long closed off to witches. In the office, he encounters Lian Wu, who is reading a book. Their conversation touches on the contrasting lives of people in different parts of the world. Zhang Su then calls Kazama Yihui, the new Director of the Witch Countermeasures Bureau, to discuss acquiring stardust bricks. Their dialogue reveals Kazama's strict adherence to bureaucracy, but Zhang Su manages to negotiate for twenty bricks after highlighting his contributions. After the call, Zhang Su finds comfort in Lian Wu's presence and contemplates future plans amid the looming threat of demons. He takes Zha Zha to play with other kids, where Lianyao expresses a desire to leave Anxin Courtyard, surprising Zhang Su.
