Summary

In this chapter, Orson, a 16-year-old boy, is adjusting to his new school life at Peterheim High School, where he hopes to gather intelligence on Qie City. He finds himself sitting next to Winter, the formidable leader of the Ursus Student Council, but pretends not to recognize her. As class begins, he becomes distracted by the absurdity of the textbooks and starts daydreaming about how to support his friends back home. During a history lesson, Orson gets unexpectedly choked by the teacher, leading to a humiliating punishment where he must stand in the doorway with buckets of corn and a loaf of bread balanced on his head while students gawk at him. After class, he meets Lindent, who recognizes him as Orson rather than Alain, his assumed identity. Their conversation leads to a flashback about a traumatic experience Lindent and her father faced during a snowstorm in the Northern Territory, where they encountered dangerous Originium worms.
