Chapter 227: Deceit and Trickery. [230]
Summary
Zhang Xuan and Fang Xuan Ling continue their siege on Zhang Jin Cheng's forces, with Fang Xuan Ling managing logistics and Zhang Xuan handling strategy. Zhang Xuan is covered in blood, but it's not his own. Fang Xuan Ling is horrified by the number of soldiers dying in the siege and vows to ensure Zhang Jin Cheng doesn't escape. A messenger from Zhang Jin Cheng's camp arrives, claiming to be Yang Ji's brother. He delivers a letter from Yang Ji, who wants to help the Sui army eliminate Zhang Jin Cheng. Yang Ji is Zhang Jin Cheng's strategist but has been threatened by him. Zhang Xuan is skeptical but reads the letter, which details Zhang Jin Cheng's army's low morale and dwindling supplies. Fang Xuan Ling suggests testing Yang Ji's sincerity by offering him a chance to redeem himself by helping the Sui army annihilate Zhang Jin Cheng. Zhang Xuan agrees and writes a letter to Yang Ji, instructing the messenger to return to Zhang Jin Cheng's camp. At Zhang Jin Cheng's camp, he orders the execution of all wounded soldiers to conserve supplies. Yang Ji informs Zhang Jin Cheng of Zhang Xuan's letter, which offers him a chance to redeem himself. Zhang Jin Cheng is skeptical and questions Yang Ji's loyalty.Full content
