Summary

In a narrative set during the hot season, Pan Jinlian engages with Chun Mei about dyeing her nails with balsam flowers. As they prepare, Pan Jinlian secretly plans to meet Chen Jing Ji. After a romantic encounter where they embrace, Pan Jinlian gives him money for his grandmother’s burial. Later, Chen Jing Ji, having been out drinking with friends, falls asleep and misses their appointment. Pan Jinlian discovers a hairpin belonging to another woman in his sleeve, leading to accusations of infidelity. Their confrontation escalates with Pan Jinlian asserting her suspicions, while Chen Jing Ji desperately denies any wrongdoing, swearing his loyalty, but tensions remain high between them.
