Chapter 22: The Helplessness of Youth. [21]

Summary

After completing his drama script, Shen Xi delivered it to the county office, hoping to receive a reward as promised by an old man. However, the guard mistreated him and only gave him two copper coins instead of the promised reward. Feeling wronged, Shen Xi vowed to seek justice. Days later, a theater troupe from Nan performed Shen Xi's dramas, "Nǚ Zhòumǎ" and "Sìláng Tànmǔ," at the county office, attracting many audiences. Seeing the popularity of storytelling, Shen Xi compiled a romantic tale about the Yang family generals, which quickly became a trend in the town. Meanwhile, his mother wrongly accused him of skipping classes and tried to take him to the teacher, until Shen Xi explained the bullying he faced from other students, leading her to offer an apology to the teacher.
