Chapter 219: Sixth Patriarch Huineng. [219]

Summary

Wu Zu recognized Hui Neng's exceptional potential but initially assigned him to work in a rice mill to avoid jealousy from his disciples. After eight months of hard labor, Wu Zu announced a search for a successor. Shen Xiu, a respected monk, composed a verse but failed to grasp true enlightenment. Despite the danger of others seeking the ancestral robe, Hui Neng began his journey southward, ultimately spreading the teachings and establishing temples, including the Nanhua Temple.
