Summary

In the story, Du Yu and his companions discover that a girl, presumed dead, was actually disguised to create discord among them. They suspect Xiao Nian faked her death for ulterior motives, but the group struggles to accept this idea. After learning about the burning of the City God Temple, they return to find it in ruins. Amidst the destruction, they encounter the Earth Mother, a deity who recognizes Du Yu and expresses interest in finding eight individuals for a mysterious purpose. The group is bewildered and fearful of her intentions, questioning why a deity would appear in such a situation. Tension rises as they grapple with the implications of her presence and the fate that awaits them.
