Summary

Yusuf, imprisoned and tortured, struggles to survive in a dark cell. After being thrown to the ground by guards, he fights against his exhaustion and thirst to reach a sink, only to discover it provides no water. Despairing, he sobs silently until a guard brings him a meal and a cup of water, which turns out to be salty brine. In anger, Yusuf throws the cup at the guard, who merely smirks and walks away. Regret washes over Yusuf as he realizes he wasted his only chance for water. He consumes a disgusting slop to ease his pain, marking the wall with "58 days left" as he resolves to endure. Yet, pain keeps him awake through the night, and the next day brings more suffering under the sun.
