Chapter 20: Li Bai Gets Drunk at the Palace Banquet and Asks Gao Lishi to Remove His Boots. [20]

Summary

In a courtyard, He Mu Yao warns Li Bai about the powerful eunuch Gao Li Shi, who summons him to a royal banquet. Despite her commoner status, she urges him to be cautious, especially about not asking Gao to help remove his boots. At the banquet, Li Bai impresses the emperor with his poetry but, intoxicated, he forgets He Mu Yao's advice and requests Gao to remove his boots. This angers Gao, who complains to the emperor. Li Bai realizes his mistake and, seeking to make amends, recites another poem that pleases the emperor, who ultimately forgives him, advising him to be more restrained in the future.
