Chapter 2: Baptism. [24]

Summary

Hao Qi, during dinner, becomes engrossed in a newspaper article detailing a major corruption case involving Xu Wen, a high-ranking official in the Lan Ying Gong He Guo, who has been sentenced to death. Reflecting on the Xu family's power dynamics, he deduces they might be sacrificing Xu Wen to protect their lineage after he killed a powerful member of their family. He decides not to pursue further vengeance, focusing instead on his own goals and the need for resources to prepare for future endeavors. The next day, he meets with members of the Li family, who confirm Xu Wen's death and discuss the upcoming "baptism," a trial for martial artists where he must survive encounters with representatives from various factions. The elder from the Li family explains the significance of the baptism, emphasizing its role in integrating powerful individuals into the ruling class and maintaining societal order. Hao Qi realizes the baptism could be a test of his strength and a political maneuver against him, but he resolves to prepare adequately with the elder's guidance.
