Chapter 193: A Discussion on Poetry Between Sovereign and Subject. [200]

Summary

Li Su, a government official, was imprisoned in the Dali Temple. He went crazy after receiving bad omens from a makeshift divination method. The prison guard reported his condition to Sun Fujia, the minister, who then informed Li Shi Min, the emperor. Li Shi Min ordered Sun Fujia to recite the poems Li Su had recited while in his crazed state. The poems revealed Li Su's feelings of injustice, longing, and desire to leave the imperial court. Li Shi Min believed Li Su was pretending to be crazy and decided to let him go, closing the east city case. Meanwhile, Dou Fu, the vice minister, was demoted and exiled to Kunzhou. Li Shi Min, impressed by Li Su's poems, copied them personally and seemed to appreciate the young man's talent.
