Summary

Xia Qi issued an order to prevent the frontline troops from aiding Wang Ji, believing that a prolonged battle would deplete the Sanmiao rebels' resources and ultimately favor the court. Despite concerns for Wang Ji's safety, Taibao Zhen adhered to Xia Qi's command, thwarting the Sanmiao lord's strategic plans. A martial arts expert from the Shang clan led a small group to gather intelligence and successfully infiltrated Jun Tai's defenses. Upon reporting to Xia Qi, they learned that the Guandou army was besieging Jun Tai but would struggle to capture it soon. Xia Qi reassured that the court's forces were adequately positioned and instructed the Shang expert to return to the frontline. However, a lookout later reported a new troop of over twenty thousand entering the Guandou army's camp, prompting concern about the enemy's increasing strength.
