Summary

Li Mu encounters the Woman In White, who hints at the need for him to leave Chang'an City due to his meddling in affairs that don't concern him. Despite his attraction to her, he recognizes their different worlds and refrains from pursuing her further. As he strolls through the West District, he reflects on the military tomb, Chang'an Ling, and the sacrifices made by soldiers. Upon reaching the cemetery, he pays his respects but is moved by the plight of Grandma Cai, who pleads to see her deceased son. The soldiers guarding the entrance coldly refuse her, highlighting the harsh realities faced by those mourning their loved ones. Li Mu feels a surge of empathy and frustration at the soldiers' cruelty.
