Summary

In the back mountain of Putian Temple, a half-old Taoist reflects on aging and his past pursuits while enjoying the company of a little white fox. He is visited by his disciple, Yi Fan, who has made remarkable progress in his cultivation, reaching the peak of the Nascent Soul in just three and a half years. The Taoist gifts Yi Fan an ordinary iron plate, the Xuan Yuan Plate, to aid in his cultivation, and urges him to embark on a journey to the northern border to find a Taoist priest. As they converse, a plump injured monk arrives, inviting them to meet Master Shikong.
