Summary

In this chapter, Sir Wright deals with various threats to Mei Lun, particularly focusing on the assassin Pa Te, who had previously attacked Mei Lun. Mei Lun confronts a cloaked figure in a hidden location, revealing himself and using the Power of Dreams to extract information about Pa Te and stolen items from the Craftsmen's Brotherhood. The cloaked figure inadvertently reveals the rendezvous point and the location of a data storage module containing valuable knowledge about magical runes. After successfully obtaining the module, Mei Lun learns that the knowledge is incomplete. He decides to seek out the other cloaked individuals, anticipating they will rendezvous with Pa Te. Mei Lun stealthily travels to an abandoned village south of the city, where he eventually encounters Pa Te and two of his associates. As tensions rise, Mei Lun takes advantage of the situation, retrieving the stolen data modules before confronting Pa Te, who fails to recognize him as the investigator he nearly killed. After a brief exchange, Mei Lun kills Pa Te and collects various items, including a badge of the "Heavenly Father," before sealing them away and observing the area from a distance.
