Chapter 15: The Red String Beggar. [18]

Summary

In 2009, a beggar named Zhang Cheng Ping died in the cold winter of Chungking near the Guanyin Bridge. A clothing shop owner had previously given him newspapers and witnessed his kindness when he offered her a half-used candle. When his soul was summoned, he appeared peaceful and content, revealing he was a former worker from Guizhou who had been struggling with mental illness for years. Despite his challenging life, he maintained a desire to be a good person and faced death without fear or regret. The narrator was deeply moved by his story and burned the newspaper he had kept, silently praying for the beggar's well-being in the afterlife.
