Summary

A mysterious incident unfolds as Xiao Nian, a young boy, appears dazed after a near-drowning in a river where a widow recently drowned. Concerned friends investigate, discovering Xiao Nian's fear may stem from witnessing something unsettling in the water. The village chief and Xiao Nian's parents seek help, fearing he is possessed. A plan is devised to call back Xiao Nian's soul using a ritual by the river. The protagonist leads the worried mother back to the river, where they successfully retrieve Xiao Nian's soul, overcoming supernatural disturbances along the way. With preparations in place, they hope to restore Xiao Nian to his former self.
