Summary

In a mountain temple, Taoist priest Song Zhi tasks his junior Hao Yong to copy records of Pei Zi Yun, promising silver for the job. After some reluctance, Hao Yong accepts. The next day, Song Zhi, restless and obsessed with the idea of a "Phoenix Fate," seeks the Headmaster's help to propose to Ye Su Er, believing it will help him break through the Heavenly Gate. The Headmaster, however, rebukes him, reminding him of Pei Zi Yun's connection with Ye Su Er and scolding him for his obsession. Song Zhi leaves disgraced, filled with resentment, while Pei Zi Yun's rising success intensifies his feelings of inadequacy.
