Summary

In a tale set in Fusang, a cracked ceramic bowl is identified as a Fusang spirit, a creature formed from old objects that have absorbed spiritual energy over time. Wu Ming, a powerful figure, learns about the customs surrounding these spirits and earns a reputation for vanquishing demons. After a successful mission, he returns to an inn, where he encounters a destitute old ronin from the Oni clan. Wu Ming offers to pay off the ronin's debts in exchange for adopting him as his son, thus securing a family name for himself. The ronin, despite his dire situation, agrees, and they finalize the adoption, intertwining their fates.
