Judgment of Dayu.

Chapter 14: "Dayu's Secret Case: Cutting Power Struggles, Cutting Affections and Hatreds". [16]

Summary

After Dayu killed Gao Tao, he appointed Sanmiao Leader as Chief Justice, causing discontent among Gao Tao's subordinates. Some officials informed Emperor Shun of Dayu's plan to fabricate a letter implicating him. Dayu learned of this plot through his spies and summoned the Shen brothers and Sanmiao Leader to deal with the situation. They recognized Wu Guang as a significant threat due to his knowledge of the forgery and connections to Emperor Shun. Despite his gratitude towards Wu Guang for past assistance, Dayu decided to eliminate him to secure his position. Dayu ordered his attendant to kill Wu Guang and his household, which Wu Guang discovered too late, leading him to plan to report Dayu to Emperor Shun. Dayu, upon hearing of the raid on Wu Guang's home, attempted to rescue him and show respect, while simultaneously executing officials who had reported to Wu Guang. Fearing repercussions from Gao Tao's family, Dayu ordered their execution as well. Despite his efforts to cover up his actions, rumors spread, and years later, Emperor Shun learned the truth but felt powerless due to Dayu's control over military power and loyalty from followers. After Emperor Shun's death, Dayu mourned while secretly consolidating power, eliminating Yi's trusted officials, and promoting his son Qi. Qi fell in love with Little Yu from the Shen tribe, leading to their marriage, which further strengthened alliances.
