Summary

Jia Rong waits at Qixia Temple for news from his grandmother, who is unwell and cannot meet him. He descends to Tong Family Village, where Jia Zhen scolds him for failing to bring his wife home. Meanwhile, in Dongzhuang Town, Jia Huan meets Lai Sheng, a steward from Ningguo Mansion, who discusses business and the dire situation involving Jia Zhen's violent actions against women, including Bao Zhu and Rui Zhu. Jia Huan realizes the extent of Jia Zhen's ruthlessness and contemplates the implications of selling shares in a brick kiln to protect his interests.
