Chapter 137: New Official Takes Office. [141]
Summary
Li Su, the inventor of firearms, was appointed as the Supervisor of the Firearm Bureau by Emperor Li Shi Min. Li Shi Min, however, was a suspicious and power-hungry ruler who wouldn't entrust firearms to anyone, including the Crown Prince. Li Su, with his knowledge of the secret formula, was the only one Li Shi Min could trust. Li Su visited the Firearm Bureau with Chen Tang, where he was greeted by the artisans and workers. He was impressed by their work but also felt the weight of responsibility and the true meaning of power. As the Supervisor, Li Su was exempt from the rules and was allowed to enter the Firearms Bureau, which was heavily guarded by the Imperial Guards. Li Su was tempted by the taste of power but was not willing to risk his life for it. He met Xu Jingzong, an old acquaintance, who pledged to obey his orders. Li Su was satisfied but also had reservations about Xu's intentions. The chapter ends with Li Su's journey as the Supervisor of the Firearm Bureau, where he will face challenges and confront the darker aspects of human nature.Full content
