Chapter 135: First Battle Against the Pirate King (2). [138]
Summary
Zhang Xuan observes the approaching bandit soldiers, noting their disorganized appearance reminiscent of construction workers rather than a military force. Despite his initial thought to lead a counterattack, he recognizes the cunning of the enemy leader, Zhang Jin Cheng, who has previously deceived others into overextending themselves. Zhang Xuan issues a command to not underestimate the enemy. As the bandits halt at a safe distance, Zhang Jin Cheng plans to use intimidation tactics, sending his men to attack the city gate, despite lacking siege weapons. The bandits, led by General Lv Ming Xing, face heavy casualties from the Sui army's archers as they attempt to advance. Despite Zhang Jin Cheng's orders to press on, the bandits retreat in fear after suffering losses. Zhang Jin Cheng, frustrated by their retreat, employs axe men to force the soldiers back into the fray. The bandits regroup and launch another attack, but the Sui soldiers adapt and retaliate effectively. As the battle intensifies, Lv Ming Xing finally deploys his elite troops, significantly increasing the threat to the Sui defenders. Zhang Xuan realizes the situation is dire and decides to investigate further, preparing for a fierce confrontation ahead.Full content
