Chapter 134: He is One of Us. [134]
Summary
Amidst the turmoil of war engulfing China, a new German-trained division is being formed, drawing soldiers from various factions. Zhou Yang, the newly appointed commander, grapples with the challenge of integrating troops from the National Revolutionary Army, the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army, and even three elite regiments from the Eighth Route Army led by Li Yunlong, Ding Wei, and Kong Jie. These battle-hardened soldiers, known for their guerrilla tactics, are initially resistant to joining forces with the National Army. However, the order from Yan'an, revealed to be a strategic move to modernize the Eighth Route Army, compels them to cooperate. Meanwhile, both Chairman Chiang Kai-shek and Yan Xishan see this new division as an opportunity to extend their influence. As Zhou Yang announces the division's structure and appoints key positions, including Chu Yunfei as Deputy Division Commander and Ding Wei as Chief of Staff and Brigade Commander, the stage is set for a complex interplay of loyalties, ambitions, and the looming threat of war.Full content
