Summary

Zhang Su observes the magical restraint chains binding Yue Hua Ji, which suppress her intelligence and keep her in a deep slumber. He and Lian Wu, who is connected to Yue Hua Ji as her ancestor, are in charge of monitoring her condition. As they prepare to leave, Yue Hua Ji's hand begins to twitch, causing Zhang Su to quickly guide Lian Wu out. Once safe, Lian Wu expresses her fear and responsibility towards her family's legacy of being shrine maidens who guard Yue Hua Ji. Zhang Su reassures her that the Witch Countermeasures Bureau has the situation under control, but Lian Wu feels a strong connection to her ancestor and decides to stay, despite the weight of her family's agreement. Zhang Su appoints her as the acting shrine maiden for a probationary period, giving her a salary for her new role. After settling in, Zhang Su leaves to confront the leader of the Teng Chuan Group, Teng Chuan Qian Dai, who is imprisoned. They discuss the recent attack on the Anxin Shrine by someone claiming to be from the Teng Chuan Group.
