Summary

In a quiet spring season, students of a private school eagerly await their teacher's dismissal. After the students leave, a boatman, an acquaintance of the teacher, visits and shares his caught fish. They converse about the boatman's encounter with a young wanderer, whom he led astray. Later, the young wanderer, a skilled martial artist, arrives at the school seeking shelter and employment as a martial arts instructor. The teacher, a Daoist Spirit, agrees to let him stay. The boatman's son, displeased with the newcomer, confronts them both, leading to tension. The Daoist Spirit and the young wanderer share a moment in her study, where she reveals her concerns about one of her mischievous students. As they chat, the young wanderer realizes the student's resemblance to someone significant. As time passes, the Daoist Spirit remains at the school, watching generations of students come and go. She contemplates leaving but ultimately decides to stay, finding comfort in the familiar surroundings. One day, a stranger arrives, startling the Daoist Spirit. After a brief exchange, she loses consciousness and awakens to an intense argument between the stranger, Lü Jue, and Mei Meng, a character from her past. Mei Meng declares her love for Lü Jue but refuses to be held captive, ultimately choosing to drink a medicinal soup to calm her emotions.
