Summary

In a tense exchange, Xu Lu confronts Xi Ying Zhen while grappling with his own grim fate. Despite recognizing Xi Ying Zhen, Xu Lu is confused by his presence and expresses a forced cheerfulness. Xi Ying Zhen, dismissive of Xu Lu's plight, is in search of something left by Xu Lu's brother. As they inspect human bones with bite marks, it becomes evident that Xu Lu has horrifyingly consumed his own son, Xu Wei, out of desperation during his imprisonment. Xu Lu, resigned to his fate, awaits death. Despite initial reluctance, Xi Ying Zhen ultimately removes the iron hoop around Xu Lu’s neck, granting him a chance at release from his suffering, to which Xu Lu responds with gratitude.
