Summary

Li Yuanji contemplates his father's question about becoming the crown prince, expressing a desire rooted in loyalty to restore the Tang dynasty rather than for power. Li Yuan is moved by his son's sincerity and ambition. Meanwhile, in the Hexi Corridor, the Zhou cavalry, led by Liu Lan Cheng, prepares for a surprise attack on the Tang army. Liu Lan Cheng devises a plan to cross the Qilian Mountains to flank the enemy, selecting elite soldiers for the arduous journey. The soldiers face challenges as they ascend, relying on hunting and foraging for sustenance while remaining cautious of the dangers in the terrain.
