The Great Idle Person of the Zhenguan Era.

Chapter 122: A Difficult Decision. [126]

Summary

The city of Songzhou, recently recovered by the Tang army, was in a state of devastation, with ruins and rubble everywhere. The 100,000 surrendered Tibetan soldiers were being held in barracks outside the city, awaiting the Emperor's decision on their fate. Hou Junji and the other Grand Marshals were busy attending to various tasks, such as resettling civilians, repairing city walls, and maintaining law and order. Li Su, the Registrar and Military Advisor, was carefree, spending his days leisurely strolling around the camp, eating, and drinking. He occasionally felt humiliated by being treated like a useless person but quickly shook off these feelings. The Tang army's actions would determine the course of history, and the people of Songzhou were watching and waiting. Li Su's carefree attitude brought a sense of comfort to those around him, a reminder that even in dark times, there was still room for joy and laughter. Niu Jin Da, the Grand Commander, was planning to continue westward, invading Tibetan territory, but Li Su advised against it, citing the costs and difficulties of developing the land and the potential for sworn enmity between the Tang dynasty and Tibet.
