Summary

In the Sui Dynasty, Yang Guang faces a dilemma after the death of Minister Fan Zi Gai, torn between loyalty and the need for justice. Yu Wen Shu, a loyal minister, offers to take the blame for the death, pleading for mercy for his grandson, Yuwen Chengdu. Yang Guang grants him mercy but remains resolute about maintaining order. Meanwhile, Yuwen Shu harbors deep resentment towards the Li clan, vowing revenge. After a celebratory feast, Yuwen Shu mysteriously dies, causing turmoil. Yuwen Chengdu, devastated, kneels before Yang Guang, who expresses sorrow yet insists on following the law. Tensions rise as Yuwen Chengdu seeks vengeance against the Li faction, while Yang Guang sees the conflict as beneficial to his rule.
