Chapter 1204: Westward into Longyou. [1208]
Summary
Zhang Gong Jin and Li Shi Min discuss the political turmoil in Da Tang, particularly regarding the Tai Zi's demotion and the emperor's authority. Zhang warns Li Shi Min that the Tai Zi's military power poses a threat, and he suggests that Li Shi Min should move his army to Longyou instead of returning to Chang'an. Li Shi Min, realizing the necessity of seizing power for the sake of the realm, agrees to the plan. He swiftly withdraws his troops southward and prepares to fortify Longyou. Meanwhile, an envoy from the Da Zhou dynasty arrives in Chang'an, where Li Jian Cheng welcomes them, but the atmosphere in the city reflects a decline in prosperity due to recent political unrest and the actions of Chu Wang. Wei Yun Qi, the lead envoy, notes the desolation of Chang'an, while Pei Ji attempts to downplay the situation, revealing his bias towards Chu Wang. The chapter concludes with the envoy settling into the guesthouse, setting the stage for future negotiations.Full content
