Summary

Li Yan Qing participates in the imperial examination, where candidates must interpret a prompt and compose a poem. He contemplates three poems and ultimately chooses Zhu Xi's "Reflections on Reading," believing it aligns better with the examination theme. After the exam, Li Yan Qing celebrates with friends, including Zheng Rong Tai, Zhang Xian, and Zhou Chun. Tension arises when Zhao Yu Shu confronts Li Yan Qing, seeking revenge for a previous altercation that injured him. Despite Zhao's anger, Li Yan Qing remains unfazed, and Zhao vows to get back at him. The gathering continues with laughter and camaraderie until Li Yan Qing's father unexpectedly arrives at the inn, surprising him.
