Chapter 120: Eve of the Final Battle. [123]
Summary
The Goguryeo court decided to engage in battle against the Sui army, leading to intense preparations in Pyongyang, including forced enlistments of young men and mobilization of women for support roles. Yuan Tai Zuo observed the chaos from the city wall, concerned about the morale of civilians. General Eulji Mun Deok informed him of the Sui army's capture of Han City, raising fears about the prisoners at the mines. Yuan Tai Zuo suspected the Sui army might integrate these prisoners into their forces, potentially overwhelming Goguryeo. Meanwhile, Zhang Xuan returned to the Sui camp after successfully relocating eighty thousand prisoners, but only two thousand were fit for battle. The Sui commanders, aware of the urgency due to the approaching rainy season, decided to engage in battle within four days.Full content
