Summary

Xiao Fan attempted to create a waterproof layer using a mixture of slaked lime, sand, and loess for a fish pond. He experimented with a ratio of 40% sand, 40% loess, and 20% slaked lime, but found that the mixture wouldn't adhere to the loess walls of the pit. Despite the promising color of the mixture, it failed to stick, leading Xiao Fan to realize that shaping the loess with bricks was necessary before applying any cement-like material. He decided to create a reusable mold from lumber to produce ancient Roman bricks, essential for future construction.
