Summary

Yun Lang and Dazai explored the tomb of the First Emperor, finding it to be less impressive than expected. The geographical model of mountains and rivers was inaccurate, and the use of common cobblestones instead of bluestone slabs was a disappointment. They discovered a marketplace with motionless pedestrians, including a weaver with a black centipede in her hair and a blacksmith with empty tools. Dazai explained that he took usable items from the tomb, including hemp and silk fabrics. Yun Lang sat in a tavern, imagining Dazai's loneliness, and then walked through the market to a city named Xianyang. The city was built into a vast canyon, with towering walls and a city gate flanked by two warriors. Yun Lang saw twelve poorly crafted golden figures, weighing around 100 tons each, and wondered how they were placed there. He knocked on the armor, producing a clanging sound, and Dazai glanced at him, saying he didn't think it was the remains of General Wang Jian.
