Chapter 1083: Retreat. [1102]

Summary

Zhi Dou observed the battlefield from his chariot, noting the disarray of the Xiongnu cavalry. Despite heavy losses, the Han army, led by Ji Men Jun and Ba Shang Jun, maintained pressure on the enemy. The Xiongnu's forces were reduced to desperate remnants, unable to flee. Zhi Dou anticipated the arrival of fresh Xiongnu reinforcements, numbering over 7,000, but he was determined to engage them. He recognized the strategic importance of eliminating the Xiongnu's elite cavalry, believing that even a costly victory would benefit the Han dynasty in the long run. As the Han army prepared for a full-scale attack, the Xiongnu cavalry, already demoralized and weakened, faced annihilation.
