Chapter 1020: Forced to Deploy. [1024]

Summary

Duan De Cao faces a critical decision as he prepares to confront the elite forces of Northern Sui, under pressure from the Emperor. Aware that avoiding battle could lead to accusations of treachery, he resolves to mobilize his troops despite the overwhelming odds. As they march towards Diaoyin County, Duan De Cao suspects a trap laid by the Sui army, which is confirmed when scouts report a large enemy presence at the valley's mouth. With the rear guard still en route, Duan De Cao grapples with whether to retreat or push forward. Liang Li suggests consulting the rear guard commander, Cheng Duo, who ultimately defers to Duan De Cao's judgment. However, as the situation escalates, Duan De Cao orders a retreat to avoid being trapped, leading the rear guard to turn back.
