Chapter 1006: The War of Heart Punishment (Part 2). [1010]
Summary
Zhang Chang Xun meets Zhu Sui Liang in the city tower, where they discuss the recent victory against the Turks in Lou Fan County. Zhu Sui Liang delivers a letter from Elder Liang Song, confirming the safety of Zhang Chang Xun's grandsons and urging him to consider surrendering to Northern Sui. Qi Wang offers Zhang Chang Xun a chance to remain governor if he surrenders, but warns of destruction if he does not respond within two days. As tensions rise, the Sui army, led by Li Jing, begins to advance with giant catapults, but instead of attacking, they launch letters to the defenders, stirring emotions and desires for peace among the soldiers. Zhang Wu, Zhang Chang Xun's son, reports the soldiers' reluctance to fight, and both father and son grapple with the implications of surrendering. Ultimately, Zhang Chang Xun decides to surrender to preserve lives, leading to a mutiny among the troops as they rush to surrender to the Sui army. The Sui forces successfully reclaim territories, while the Tang army's siege of Jiangling City intensifies.Full content
