Summary

In a secluded place called Mud Bottle Alley, a lonely teenager named Chen Ping An follows a local tradition on February 2nd, trying to ward off pests. An orphan and a kiln worker, he struggles to make a living after losing the town's protective charm. Despite his frail appearance, he possesses hidden strength from years of hard work. Chen Ping An recalls his mentor, Old Yao, who favored another apprentice, Liu Xian Yang. As he practices pottery alone, he encounters his neighbor, Song Ji Xin, who mocks him. A well-dressed youth visits, thanking Chen Ping An for a carp he couldn't afford, leaving him with mixed feelings. Chen Ping An reflects on his hardships, murmuring a wish for peace and safety.
