Chapter 1: The Adventures of a Girl Rescued from Homelessness. [0]

Summary

In "Tokyo: I Took in a Homeless Girl," the protagonist, Sawayama Haruno, finds himself reborn in Tokyo and initially leads a fulfilling life, successfully enrolling in a prestigious university. As he prepares for his future as a literary genius, he is surprised by the late arrival of a "golden finger" system that promises assistance. However, he is taken aback when he discovers that the system highlights his ex-girlfriend’s twin sister, Maki Miyazawa, who is now homeless. Haruno’s concern for Maki grows, especially after he learns that she has faced severe difficulties, including being kicked out by her family. Despite his own plans, he feels compelled to help her, especially since she is in a dangerous area known for its risks to young girls. As he searches for her, he reflects on their past interactions, realizing he once viewed her as distant and unapproachable. In a dark alley, Maki encounters a man, Gu Qiao Jun Zhi, who misinterprets her situation and approaches her clumsily, attempting to offer her money. Just then, Haruno arrives and outbids him for Maki's attention, offering fifty thousand yen—a sum that shocks the other man, given the average income and rising living costs in Tokyo. Seeing Maki's cold demeanor reminds Haruno of his ex, complicating his feelings. Maki, discontented with the initial amount offered and aware of Haruno's connection to her sister, boldly suggests a higher price. She cheekily proposes that he should pay eighty or even a hundred thousand yen to call him "brother-in-law." Haruno reluctantly agrees, desperate to get her out of the precarious situation she is in, while Maki’s provocative stance both infuriates and intrigues him. Thus begins their complex dynamic, rooted in past connections and the newfound challenges of her homelessness. Haruno wrestles with his impulse to help while dealing with Maki's brash personality, setting the stage for further developments in their relationship.
