Chapter 019: Cold Shredded Radish [18]

Summary

Shen Jia Yi anxiously brings her stepson Shi Tie Jun home, instructing him to hide his injury and say he fell. After treating his wound, he quickly forgets his pain when he sees food. Shi Da Niu, her rough husband, is pleased to see his son but has poor hygiene habits, which disgusts Shen Jia Yi. Shen Jia Yi reflects on her past marriage to a high-ranking engineer who died tragically, leaving her a widow. She later married Shi Da Niu, despite her brother Shen Jia Xing's strong objections due to Shi Da Niu's character and suspicions about his first wife's death. Shen Jia Yi resents her brother for not providing a dowry, which he had planned but never delivered. Shi Da Niu is satisfied with Shen Jia Yi, appreciating her beauty and background. When discussing her brother's situation, Shen Jia Yi tries to persuade Shi Da Niu to relocate him closer, but he refuses, planning instead to send him away. Shen Jia Yi silently hopes her brother will learn from his hardships. The next morning, Shen Jia Xing discreetly buys meat and prepares a meal with his daughter Shen Jiao, who has made a delicious cold dish. They enjoy their meal, with Shen Jia Xing praising Shen Jiao's cooking.
