Summary

Wang Cheng, a nobleman's lazy grandson, faces poverty and hardship. He finds a golden hairpin belonging to an old woman's late husband, who turns out to be his grandfather. The old woman helps them by providing gold to buy food. Wang ventures to sell cloth in the capital but loses everything. After a series of misfortunes, he discovers a quail and trains it for gambling. Eventually, he participates in a competition at the King's palace, where his quail impresses the King. Despite initial reluctance, Wang considers selling the quail, recognizing its value and potential to change his fate.
