Summary

An Qing Dai Sheng, a poor scholar, encounters his deceased cousin Ji Sheng while drunk. Ji reveals that Dai's name is recorded in the dark prison due to his bad deeds, warning him that only great goodness can save him. Determined to change, Dai vows to improve his ways. After falling into a well, he meets spirits who ask him to bury their remains. Guided by an ancestor, Dai learns he must return to the human world to fulfill his duty. After years of study and reflection in the underworld, he is eventually rescued. Upon returning, he repents, buries the bones, and finds success in life, illustrating the power of redemption and goodness.
