Summary

During the Chong Zhen era, Hou Jing Shan was a revered figure known for his wisdom and poetic discussions. When the young minister Nian Dong's grandfather fell ill, he sought the old man’s advice. After a significant wait, the old man arrived and addressed the crowd with humor and insight. He encouraged the minister’s brothers in their studies and warned of the complexities of life and death. Following the minister's grandfather's death, a monkey from the village, which had evaded capture for years, was eventually killed by villagers. Unaware of its fate, the monkey approached the old man, seeking support and promising wealth, adopting the name Jing Shan.
