Summary

In the Xuzhou government office, Cai Da anxiously awaits the birth of his child, concerned about the prolonged labor of his concubine, Madam Xiao. Midwife Zhang Shi reassures him, but tensions rise when Cai learns that forceps may be needed, a practice linked to the True Monarch Han Kun, whom he despises. Despite his anger, Cai is compelled to pay homage to Han Kun's portrait for the safe delivery. After a ritual of respect, a baby is born, but to Cai's dismay, it is a daughter instead of the expected son.
