Summary

In Yangzhou, General Liang enjoys leisure until a mysterious scholar appears, captivated by a chess game. Despite his humble demeanor, he struggles with losses, ultimately panicking and pleading for help from Liang. The scholar reveals he’s a ghost, cursed for his obsession with chess, which led to his father's death and his own demise. Liang learns from Ma Cheng, a guard, that the scholar was sentenced to seven years as a hungry ghost for failing to redeem himself. Despite his desire for freedom, the scholar remains trapped in his obsession, forever lost in the game and lamented by those who observe his fate.
